American flag salute question.

The wife and I were talking about how we saluted the flag in 1942 when we were in kindergarten. ( we are both 71 years old)
We seem to remember that we held our right arm straight out with the palm up.
Then at some time, they told us, to start off by holding your arm out while we say, "I pledge allegiance to the United States of America" then we would bring our arm in and, place our hand on our heart, as we continued.
As I understand. People complained because holding the arm out straight, looked like a 'Hitler salute'
I can't remember when they did away with holding the arm out with the palm up, and just putting your hand on your heart..
What do you guys and gals remember?

RE: I need help for my first RV vacation!!

Yes...here is what you should do..
Go to GOOGLE and type in....'Oregon travel guide'
Then order the FREE travel guide.
Next do this for all states that you plan to visit, and Canada too.
The travel guides are FREE and have all kinds of info and current road maps, they are very nice...
You will also need a...'Trailer Life Directory'
this will give you almost every camp ground in America, so you can see what they have and how much they cost, with directions and phone numbers in case you want to call ahead for reservations.
There are other directories, but I use the one from Trailer Life.
Have fun,
Harry

RE: Running External Generator While Traveling: OK or Not OK?

I have friends that fish in Canada and they run the external generator in the bed of their truck, all the way back to California...
every summer with NO problems.
Just make sure that everything is secure and let her run...

Class 'C' or class 'M' that is the question.

This actually must be in a category of it's own...

RE: Need Utility/ATV Trailer Idea

Craig...please explain a little more about what you mean by
'storage space is an issue'....
and what do you mean by 'raising it on it's hind legs'..
Where will you be storing the little trailer?
Please explain with a little more detail.

RE: Tent too big??

One thing I like to have is a 12x12 plastic tarp with four corner poles and one center pole, pleanty of 1/8" nylon rope, and some tent stakes, To put a top over your cooking area.
Also another piece of plastic tarp so you can kinda enclose the cooking area on the sides, at least on two sides, to block a cold wind.
What I use to attach the sides to the top plastic are medium sized carpenter clamps, they work real good and don't cost too much.
Good tent camping to you,
Harry

RE: Selling popup buying class A, need RV bill of sale form.

I think a simple hand printed bill of sale would be just fine.
Something like this..and maybe some one else can add something if I missed something..make 2 copies, one for the buyer and one for the seller.
I, John Doe, on this 4th day of September, 2008
do sell my silver Star pop up trailer (serial number x4x7x89xx2)to..
Bill Smith for the amount of $3000 dollars cash.
Bill Smith has inspected the trailer and by signing this bill of sale
has agreed to accept it, in it's present condition...."AS IS"
Signed by seller...John Doe
1234 Elm Street
Timbuck, Colorado 234567
Signed by buyer....Bill Smith
9870 Oak St

RE: Deep Cycle Battery, Which Brand???

I am currently using a WalMart long life battery in my truck mounted camper and it has worked well. I put the first WalMart battery in the truck camper in May of 2003 and I replaced it this year because I thought it might be about time. (5 years).
It was still working perfect when I replaced it..
I also have had very good service out of the batteries from Costco..
Using them in my cars and trucks and boat...
I keep my batteries charged by using a 'Battery Tender Plus' and I have been very happy with how good it works..
Good RVing to you...

RE: Pulling A pop-up trailer w/ TC

If I were in your shoes, I would buy a small enclosed hauling trailer, kinda like the one in the picture. I would probably get a 12 foot long
by 8 foot wide model, with surge brakes..this way the girls could have their own space and you could also carry other stuff because a truck camper dosen't have that much storage space. Such as plastic boxes to put extra stuff in and maybe some bicycles or anything you want..
I actually think it would be kinda fun planing and getting the "new" trailer ready to go camping, buy some of the fold up mattresses at Costco, maybe put some carpet reminant on the floor...
the wind wont blow it down, it wont leak, and "YOU" wont have to set it up and take it down. It will also have the larger tires so you don't have to worry about them little tires that they put on tent trailers...
My son in law has a trailer exactly like this and they use it for all kinds of stuff, elk hunting, surf fishing, mountain camping ect..
And, I think, it will hold it price better that a tent trailer, and you don't have to worry about all the canvas going bad..
Good Luck to you,
Harry

RE: Looking for a nice beach near disneyland

For the kids to swim and play in the water, you can't beat Huntington beach. Go north or south of the pier and the kids will love it.
And it close to So.Cal. Disneyland....
Forget Venice beach...to many weirdos and it's way over on the other side of LA. from Disneyland.

RE: Mounting to thin plywood walls

I mounted my atomic clock to the thin plywood with "VELCRO"
I put two pieces on the clock then matched it on the wall.
This way I can easily remove the clock to install new batteries..
It has worek very well for 5 years now...

RE: Driving with the gas on....

Flyrod builder...this is what I did when I had the same problem.
I went to the builders supply store and I bought a fiberglass filter
the kind that you use in the house, I cut it to size with a sissors and made a double layer, than used duct tape to hold it on the inside of the refrigerator outside access door to cover the vents.
So far after 5 years it's still working good. I always run with the refrigerator on gas..
Good RVing to you.
